An introduction to Medicinal Cannabis

An introduction to Medicinal Cannabis

Medicinal Cannabis was legalised in Jersey in January 2020, however recreational cannabis remains illegal here in Jersey.  There are guidelines that require people to have tried conventional medicines first and there are circumstances which prevent people from safely consuming this medicine.

The biggest danger with this is that people, with a medical cannabis prescription, illegally sell their prescription medication to recreational users, who haven’t been screened for reasons why they should not take cannabis.

At the time of writing this, information about those who have come to harm is being withheld from the prescribing doctors by some psychiatrists who ignore Caldecott principle 7 - see here and The General Medical Council requirements - here - to share information with colleagues.

If you want to find out if you are eligible for medicinal cannabis, contact the clinic to make an appointment.
